Joyce Lorraine Anderson
1928 – 2019
Joyce Lorraine Anderson, age 90, formerly of Minneapolis, passed away on March 31 in Bloomington, Minnesota. Born in Eden Prairie on October 13, 1928, Joyce graduated from Eden Prairie High School and Gustavus Adolphus College and also received a master’s degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Following her graduation from Gustavus, she taught in Iowa and then served on the music staff at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Joyce taught choral music and English for the Minneapolis Public Schools from 1957-1989. She was a very kind, generous and beautiful human being who was always helping others. Joyce was an avid gardener and very proud of her Swedish tomte collection which numbered over 800 gnomes. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Roy E. Anderson and Minnie O. Anderson (Hawkins), her sister Jacqueline Marie Freeman, infant brother Charles Peter Anderson and nephew Samuel Scott Freeman. She is survived by nephew Rob Freeman, niece Tara Calder (John), niece Tamara Laughton (Dale), great nephews Christopher Freeman (Heather) and Jake Humphrey (Jennifer), great niece Melissa Freeman, great great nieces Chloe Curran, Marrisa Humphrey and Aria Humphrey, and many dear friends, colleagues and grateful students. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on June 6 at Colonial Church, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, Minnesota. A private burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Eden Prairie. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Alzheimer’s Association (MN/ND chapter), Gustavus Adolphus College or the donor’s choice. Her family thanks the Park Nicollet Hospice Team and the staff at Wealshire of Bloomington for the wonderful care provided to Joyce.
