Katherine Louise Guldberg Doepke

Katherine Louise Guldberg Doepke, age 102 of Minneapolis ,died peacefully at her apartment in Minneapolis on April 20, 2024. Born in Sutton’s Bay, MI, she graduated from Fosston, MN High School, earned an Associate degree from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN, and both Bachelor and Masters degrees in Music Education from the University of Minnesota. Her career included twenty years of teaching music in Minneapolis Public Schools, teaching music and music theory to Prince at Central High School, once playing with his band. She served forty years as choir director and fourteen years as congregation president at Trinity First Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. Katherine held key leadership roles in the Thursday Musical, American Choral Directors Association, American Assoc. of University Women and as International President of Mu Phi Epsilon music fraternity. In retirement she organized and led the Gray Aires who performed at retirement homes. The ACDA F. Melius Christiansen Lifetime Achievement Award was one of her many honors. Married to Henry Doepke for 62 years, Katherine had 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Katherine moved to Kenwood Senior Living, Mpls. in 2013 where she relished her independence, served as Residence Council President and entertained her friends almost daily on their grand piano with the motto: “Music is healing. Music holds people together.” A funeral service was held Sat. April 27 at Gathering Place Lutheran Ministries in Arden Hills, MN.
