About Chris Jacobson

Chris Jacobson is currently in his ninth year as Director of Vocal Music at Cretin-Derham Hall, and his fourteenth year as a music educator. At CDH Chris has overseen growth in the choral program from two ensembles to four. He conducts two mixed and two women's choirs along with teaching individual applied voice, music theory, and music appreciation. He also team-teaches a musical theater course and serves as the music director the the school's theater department. In addition he is in his fourth year as chair of the Fine Arts Department. Prior to his tenure at CDH, Chris was the 5-12 Choir Director in the Chatfield Public Schools in Chatfield, MN and the 7-12 Choir Director at Brooklyn Center Junior/Senior High School. He also served as a long-term substitute choir director at Tartan High School in Oakdale. And he spent three seasons on the staff of the National Catholic Youth Choir. Outside of his professional duties Chris has been active as a musician at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis and the Church of St. Joseph in Montevideo, MN. He also sang with the Twin Cities-based choir, Kantorei, for eight seasons. He was a section leader for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 All State Men's Choirs. And he has been active as an adjudicator for solo/ensemble and large-group contests. Chris earned his Bachelor of Arts in K-12 vocal music education and voice performance from Saint John's University where he was a four-year member of the CSB/SJU Chamber Choir as well as singing with the Men's Chorus and Choral Arts Ensemble and in the opera workshop. He also holds a Master of education degree focused on arts integration from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
