It is telling that multiple different people nominated our ACE recipient for the Northwest District of Minnesota. When I reached out to her to explain the award, she said “ That is so sweet and kind but I do not deserve any recognition. I have done what Jesus has asked of me and really enjoy it.” That, in a nutshell, is Marlene Wahlin and her servant heart.

Marlene began her music career with a degree from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught for 18 years in Henning, teaching grades K-12. After completing her legacy of education of nearly two decades, she chose to continue giving back to her community. Now she is the most sought after music sub. She gives voice lessons, piano lessons, and other instrumental lessons, many of which she gives to the students with full scholarships. She is present at community events and more than willing to help out when and wherever she is needed. She helps with the current music program by accompanying various concerts and taking on half of the solo & ensemble performances.

She is a gracious Pastor’s wife of 49 years, a loving mother of 3, and grandmother of seven with one on the way. She takes on every job with integrity and a kind heart. She is dependable, supportive, and people absolutely love her in the Henning community!

It is my true honor as the Northwest District Chair to honor Marlene Wahlin with our Advocate for Choral Excellence award.
